Fertility Statues Do You Believe In Them Or Not

I saw this story about people going to NYC for a chance to touch some statues. Specifically these are people that are struggling with infertility, you see these statues have built a reputation as fertility statues. They are actually quite famous as it turns out they belong to Ripley’s Believe It Or Not, you know that show. The statues originally belonged to this tribe called Baule and they live on the Ivory Coast of West Africa.

Anyway as the story goes the powers of the statues were “discovered” back in 1994 by some Ripley employees who ended up getting pregnant after touching these statues. Naturally Ripley’s not one to miss out on an opportunity the word spread and by and they now have over 2000 women claiming pregnancy after being in the presence of these statues. Well now after 8 years of seclusion for some reason these fertility statues are now on public display and going on a Ripley’s city tour around the country.

Check out this video clip about the fertility statues:

Well what did you think? First off this struck me as a little too coincidental that of all companies to come into possesion of a believe it or not item would be thee believe it or not company. Is this simply some genius marketing scheme to promote the Ripley’s lore or is it really something that just kind of happened organically. The skeptic in me unfortunately says a little bit more of the first. I do however in spite of my skepticism want to believe wholeheartedly that there is a certain amount of magic in the air when it comes to these or any other type of fertility statues. I be the first to admit we have a couple of the standard fertility statues through out the house like the kokopelli, the elephant soap stone and I think there is a small ashanti statue on one of  our tables as well. When it comes to infertility for those of us fighting to get pregnant there comes a time when we will look to get every and any advantage we can get.
