IVF May Bring Higher Risk Of Preeclampsia

Came upon a new study the other day which brings to light some more news on the potential dangers of doing an IVF procedure and the risks you are opening yourself up to. It’s always interesting to me in this latigous society that we live in that when ever new evidence like this hits the news that the doctors doing the study have to include a disclaimer type of statement stating that more research will have to be done to really draw a conclusion.

Well when it comes to complicated procedure like IVF I personally would prefer to make my choices on the side of caution and what is the latest available information. So when a study tells me that there is evidence of  a certain set of circumstances in an IVF that may expose the mom to be to a higher risk of preeclampsia then that will be getting my attention. Preeclampsia for those of you that don’t know is a condition that happens when a woman’s blood pressure goes up while in her second or third trimester and the kidneys stop being able to hold onto protein. As it stands under normal conditions about 1 in 20 women that get pregnant have to deal with this and the only cure for it giving birth to the child.

So here are the results of this recent study like I said they were looking at a specific condition and that was for women who were doing an IVF with the help of a donor egg as opposed to using their own. The difference being that about 5% of women who do an IVF will suffer through preeclampsia but that 5 percent skips up to 17% when the IVF procedure is done with the help of a donor egg. That to me is a pretty significant jump and from what I have read about the preeclampsia condition is that it may be the bodies immune system’s natural response to dealing with cells that it does not recognize. So it would make sense that the more ‘foreign dna’ you introduce to the system that the more the immune system would fight back and result in ending condition which also makes sense as to why it is cured when the baby is born and the foreign cells are removed, i’m just saying….

What are your thoughts on the condition of preeclampsia and are the increased risk of this happening to you during an IVF procedure a deterrant or are your desires to have your own children worth that extra risk? Please leave your interesting responses in the comments section down below and as always keep up the fight and don’t let IF win!
