Just because reproductive science has the ability to do it does not mean that everyone that wants to have a baby should. There is a growing or shall we say booming trend in the US and around the world where infertility clinics are helping women who are over 50 and higher to have a baby.
You have seen these stories in the news, where through the miracle of infertility science a woman or couple who are in their 50′s or 60′s decide that they want to have a child. If you are anything like me when I read these stories I have to shake my head and wonder why and what quack of a doctor thinks this is a good idea?
Thankfully there seems to be signs that there are some logical people out there that are paying attention and are beginning to do something about it like the folks up in Quebec. In Quebec for those of you that may not know the government has begun to pay for IVF procedures and they will only allow the funds to be used for those women under the age of 42. Recognizing the obvious reason which is once a woman hits that 40 age group the odds of getting pregnant are drastically lower than those at the younger age group.
Let’s be honest that is the natural progression of things and that is the way life works. Like it or not that is the reality of life and the fact that reproductive science has figured out a way to get around that does not make right.
