Feeling Conflicted Over Latest IVF Media Success Story

As long as my family has been battling infertility it still always gives me a little bit of hope when I am feeling down to hear about a success story from our circle of infertility support. However I do seem to be having a conflict when it comes to certain types of success stories, especially those ones that get a lot of media attention. Not because it was some type of break through procedure but because it was a procedure that was done one someone that is normally considered way beyond the child bearing years.

For example I am sure most everyone watching the news in the last few days have seen this story plastered all over the news and the internet. It turns out that over in India a husband and wife that have been married for over 55 years decided at the age of 70 for her and 72 for himself that they were still interested in having a child. So they went to and found help for infertility at clinic in India that apparently has no problem doing infertility procedures on women of any age.

I have been fighting infertility for well over eight years now and I am 42 at this point in my life. I realize more and more as each year passes that my window of opportunity is shrinking and I am willing to accept that. I just think at a certain point there has to come a point where as bad as I want this to happen it just might not. Granted I have not reached that point yet and don’t know when I will but at the age of 70 I am very certain that I will be well beyond that point.

Cases like that of the Indian couple bring up so many other questions i think. What kind of life is that for the child? Let’s be honest the odd are not in favor of this child having both parents living into it’s teen years at least. They are at an age when they should be enjoying their grand children not their first child, am I wrong? My only other question, well not only other one is what kind of medical laws or even ethics at this point are in place in India that they were even considered for an IVF procedure? I don’t know of many countries that would even permit an attempt like this with a couple of that age. Please if you have your own opinions about stories like this I would love to hear some different or similar perspectives.

One of my opinion is that IVF is no need to us human, It can be use but it’s totally useless, there are lots of children around the world in an orphanage that needs a home so why don’t just adapt one, in that way you can make a child happy, not increase the number of our population, and you don’t have to undergo to this procedure where there are negative chances that something might happen to you or to the child.
