New Discovery About One Cause Of Male Infertility

with one comment

Greetings once again infertility fighters yesterday I wrote about a new cost reducing mini-IVF procedure. As interesting as that was the post itself was mostly about saving money on the high cost of trying to have a baby with the assistance of drugs and doctors. I am all about saving money don’t get me wrong but it’s not really what excites me when I am doing my research on what topics to write about for this fertility blog.

What does get the creative writing juices going is when I read about new procedures or better yet new scientific discoveries that could eventually help a lot more people get pregnant. Well as it turns out there are some pretty bright infertility researchers down in Australia that have been studying male infertility and some of the causes. I just came across this media site that was doing an interview with a couple of those researchers and here are the basics what they discovered.

Apparently there is a portion of those men that are struggling with infertility that their sperm for what ever reason does not seem to have the ability to recognize the female eggs to fertilize. The researchers zeroed in on those sperm and dissected them to find what was the molecular difference between those sperm and a healthy sperm. As it turns out they discovered that a certain protein called HSP2A is the missing piece of the puzzle. A solution to getting the missing protein into the mix was not really discussed other than the fact that more research will need to be done.

Research on how the sperm is produced and why this particular protein is missing for some men. It does however point them in the direction of finding out if it’s some sort of protein deficiency in the men or if it happens later on in the sperm making process. Figuring out if it is a genetic or environmental problem will allow doctors to go forward with some kind of male infertility treatment. It’s all speculation at this point of course which is what happens when important discoveries like this one happens, it always leads to bigger mysteries to solve. Personally speaking if I had to put money on it I would wager that it’s an environmental issue that probably has something to do with diet. What do you think about this new discovery? Have your say in the comments section down below and for those of you that would like to read more about the Australian discovery about male infertility then click on that link.
