Revisiting The IVF Issue In Quebec A Year Later

with one comment

What’s up infertility fighters? It was a little bit more than a year ago when I wrote this post about the Quebec governments decision to classify infertility as a disease and therefore covering it under the health care system. Now here we are like I mentioned about a year removed from that momentus decision and what do I see come across my news feed? A post about another province of Cananda, Alberta is calling for serious discussions about their government possibly deciding to follow Quebec and bring on the added cost of infertility treatments onto their health care system as well.

There are a couple of issues up for debate here the least of which is the additional cost to the health care system obviously IVF treatments and all the meds that go along with it are not cheap. I think the wise thing that was decided when Quebec decided to take on these costs was to limit the amount of embryos that can be implanted with each attempt and limiting the attempts that couples that qualify for to three. Thus in theory of course cutting down on the percentage of multiple births which places a much longer term burden on the health care system. So I suppose only time will tell if this will all pan out and I am sure the world is watching.

There is a lot more good information in the post about the discussion going on in Alberta and the debate to take on the cost of infertility treatments for their health care system. So click on over to the story here and make sure you spread the word. Make sure you read all the way to the bottom of the story because there is a one sentence blurb about possibly setting into place a regulation to limit the amount of embryos during implantation to just one.

Until next time, keep fighting infertility ;-)
